Description
- Understand the Incident Command System (ICS) Structure, the legal framework, key players, and the key documents that guide wildlife emergency response, including the site safety plan, incident action plan, and wildlife response plan.
- Define the operational planning cycle and explain how critical response documents are developed and updated throughout the cycle.
- Understand the structure and leadership of the ICS Wildlife Branch, specifically the roles and responsibilities of key positions and their coordination with partner agencies.
- Identify the key agencies, organizations, groups, and units and personnel involved in wildlife emergency response and their collaborative roles.
- Describe the structure and responsibilities of the Wildlife Reconnaissance and Recovery Group, including its operational units and their functions.
- Understand the wildlife rehabilitation and release process, including facility requirements, taxon-specific care considerations, and the primary goals of animal transport and release.
- Explain the mobilization and demobilization process in wildlife response, including planning, execution, required documentation, and chain of custody for released animals.
- Apply effective communication and coordination strategies, including the role of the Public Information Officer and best practices for individual communication during emergencies.
